Papers, 1809-1814, connected with the administration of Lewis' estate consisting chiefly of notes signed by Lewis acknowledging debts (including one signed on the reverse by William Clark); and typed copies of the will of John Marks, Lewis' step-father, December 21, 1791; power of attorney, April 17, 1801, to Lewis' half-brother, Reuben Lewis, authorizing him to sell or otherwise dispose of his property in Albemarle County, Virginia; and a letter, Jan. 22, 1812, to Reuben Lewis relating to Meriwether Lewis.

Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were explorers. Nicholas Biddle was requested by William Clark to write a narrative of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, which was published in 1814 as "History of the Expedition of Captains Lewis and Clark."
